I have been very blessed through the course of my life, but the biggest blessing of all has been the game of tennis. Of course I love my family and God, but tennis has given me more opportunities than I could have dreamed. In this paper I will be discussing how I started playing tennis, and the somewhat hardships I had in the beginning. I will also discuss the different opportunities that tennis has provided, and last I will point out the parallel I have found between tennis and business.
I have been playing Tennis for the last 18 years, and I started playing Tennis at age 7 and a half. Before I started playing Tennis, I tried playing a few different sports. They just didn't feel right to me, and I knew that I was not enjoying them as much as I should have. When I started playing Tennis, I knew that it was for me. Every time I stepped on the court I loved it. I had the feeling that I truly belonged there. However, it was tough to get there because when my mom went to sign me up, the coach told her that there was no room, and the players there had been playing for a while, and it would be hard for me to catch up. Somehow, my mom convinced him, and that is how my journey as a tennis player began.
My favorite aspect would probably have to be that when you are playing singles.
No one is there to help you, and you are left with your mind, and your skill. I like that
You do not have to be just strong, and fast, but you also have to be mentally tough.
Then, I started playing a tournament league. I really liked the spirit of the tournaments, and I liked competing with top juniors from all around the world. It was hard for me in the beginning to leave my family behind, and travel with other kids in the beginning. But, I started enjoying competing on my own, and not for my parents, and I enjoyed spending time with all the other kids. I also enjoyed watching and learning from other players at the tournaments. The better that I became, the more my love for the game grew. I knew that this was a great game for me because I was mentally strong and good in that aspect, and I was also physically strong.
I came to the US at the age of 16 to train, and I was offered a partial scholarship at the prestigious Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai. This was a great opportunity for me, and for the first two years, I played a junior circuit all over California. This was also hard for me to be so far away from my home, and family, but it was a great chance for me to grow as a tennis player.
At the age of 18, I accepted different offers from schools all over the US. I took full opportunity of it, going to the University of Idaho my first year. This was also a great opportunity for me, and I loved the feeling of being on a team because tennis is such an individual sport. I also received a few awards there, and really became a stronger player.
After my freshman year, I transferred to Concordia where I played my final three years.
There, I met so many life long friends, and also my future wife. Like I said, college Tennis gave me a chance to learn how to compete, as a team, and I loved playing on a team atmosphere. Also, it gave me a totally different than before, because I only played individual Tennis. I learned to work on a team, and I learned that anything that I did, it affected the team.
Tennis taught me how to be alone in a critical situation. It also taught me how to be disciplined in every single practice, which lead to good wok ethics. I knew that everyday that I was on the court, I had to give it my all. This is true in the world of business. If you own your own business, there is no time to give up. Everyday you must work hard, and this is what tennis has taught me. I also learned how to set and achieve goals, how not go give up when challenged, and how to overcome difficult situations. All of these aspects can be very helpful in your business life, I have learned how to achieve a competitive advantage over my opponents, which I am sure will help me in any business moves that I want to achieve later in life. These tools can be really helpful in business. As a business owner, or corporate worker,
