If you like to work with homemade jewelry then you probably have had the chance to work with plenty of different sorts of beads; metal ones, plastic ones, glass ones and even rubber ones! Every jewelry maker has their own favorite thing to work with, but my favorite item to use is metal beads.
In the following few paragraphs I will explain to you why I prefer to work with them over any other type of beads on the market today.
My number one reason for preferring to use metal beads is the fact that I like the weight of them.
These types of bead are much heavier than the plastic ones, and I like the feel of this weight around my neck on a necklace or around my wrist on a bracelet.
I find it reassuring, whereas when I use plastic beads, they just do not have the same kind of weight.
Of course, some people like much lighter weight jewelry and they may well prefer plastic beads for this reason.
My second reason for preferring metal is that I find it much more hardwearing than other types of bead.
Glass ones are more susceptible to scratching and chipping than metal ones, and pearlescent ones can easily lose their luster if they are not taken care of properly.
Of course, plastic ones are durable too, but metal beads are still harder to crush, and they are less brittle.
My third reason for loving metal beads is the fact that they are available in a huge range of different colors and styles.
Of course, many other types of bead are available in a huge range of colors and styles (one of the reasons why I love jewelry making in general!) but I am especially fond of the metallic range.
The colors of the metal ones are so different to the colors of the plastic ones.
In my opinion, plastic often seem brighter and "popier" than metal ones and I prefer the more metallic style.
Glass beads also come in a full range of colors, but I prefer the dull metallic shine to the glass gleam.
In fact, I sometimes team the two sorts of beads up to make very beautiful but contrasting pieces.
The final reason that I love metal beads is that they offer me a small taste of luxury.
In the past, when I have been creating very special pieces of jewelry, I have spent a little bit of extra money (and they do only cost a little bit more!) on buying gold or silver plated beads.
These plated beads are the best way for you to make a piece of gold or silver jewelry if you are on a tight budget.
I have used these plated beads to create jewelry which was good enough to give to friends or family members as a gift.
Of course, everyone has their own favorite materials to work with, and everyone has their own reasons as to why they love to work with that type of material!
