- Fútbol, known in North American as soccer, is the most popular sporting game in Latin America and has been ingrained in the local culture. In the game, players on one team play on a grass field as they attempt to get a leather ball into the other team's netted goal. This is done without the use of hands, with the exception of the goalie who blocks the incoming ball from landing in their goal. In some of the more economically depressed Latin American countries, any ball is used and the game is played in the dirt.
