Apply for an employer identification number (EIN). Also known as the federal tax identification number, the EIN is used to identify your business for tax purposes. Any business that will use employees will need to have an EIN. - 5). Register for state taxes. Each business will need at least one tax specific identification number, and certain types of companies will need more. This includes the income tax withholding and sales and use tax (also known as a sellers permit), as well as unemployment insurance tax.
- 6). Determine which type of permits you will need. Selling a product or service is subject to transaction privilege tax, which means you'll need the state transaction privilege tax (TPT) license from the Arizona Department of Revenue. Certain businesses and professions will also need other licenses. Also check with your city, as some require additional licensing.
- 7). File for your licenses. You can file online at www.aztaxes.gov. The website will also allow you to print out the application if you prefer to file in person. Once your applications are approved, you will receive your licenses.
