- 1). Disable your firewall and antivirus software. Firewalls and antivirus software are notorious for making games run slowly. Certain antivirus software has a game mode where you can temporarily disable the software while a certain program runs. Otherwise, disable the software entirely and remember to enable it again once your game is open.
- 2). Close all other applications before you start a game. If you have peer-to-peer downloading tools, video messaging or other bandwidth-intensive applications running, your connection will slow down.
- 3). Connect your computer to the router via an Ethernet cable rather than Wi-Fi. If your computer is not close to your router, you may find that you do not have the best speed available to you. It is a good idea to make a direct connection with an Ethernet cable. These steps are the most important in reducing your ping. If your ping is still high, consider upgrading your Internet service provider (ISP) service.
