- Starting salary depends on the warrant officer's grade and number of years in service. For example, a grade one warrant officer with no more than two years of service earns a minimum monthly salary of $2,721. A grade one warrant officer with over six years of service earns a starting salary of $3,456 per month.
Once a warrant officer reaches a certain number of years in service for a particular rank, salary remains unchanged regardless of the number of years in service. For example, monthly salary for a grade two warrant officer caps at $5,174.10 with over 24 years of service and remain the same until retirement. - Warrant officers receive a basic allowance for housing, also referred to as BAH, along with base pay. The Army bases housing allowances are based on assigned duty station, location and dependents. For example, a grade one warrant officer stationed in Honolulu receives $2,391 with dependents and $2,004 without dependents, as of January 2011. A grade one warrant officer stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, receives $1,116 with dependents and $840 without dependents. Grade five warrant officers in Honolulu receive $3,192 with dependents and $2,631 without dependents. Grade five warrant officers in Fort Campbell receive $1,542 with dependents and $1,239 without dependents.
- In addition to base pay and BAH, warrant officers receive a monthly stipend for food known as Basic Allowance for Subsistence or BAS. As of January 2011, monthly BAS was $223.84.
- Deployed warrant officers can receive up to $325 in hazardous duty pay based on location and danger level. Warrant officers on hazardous duty missions receive up to $300 per month in hazardous duty pay. Warrant officers involuntarily deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan for more than 12 months can receive an additional $200 per month.
- Warrant officers must have at least 12 months of service left in their contract and meet six additional requirements before applying to the Warrant Officer Program. There are no exceptions to the following three rules: All warrant officers must be U.S. citizens with a high school diploma or GED and general technical score of 110 or more on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. Potential warrant officers must pass required physical agility tests, meet height and weight standards, possess a secret security clearance and pass the technician or aviator physicals.
