RC Airplanes: What Sort Of Modeler Are You?

Experienced modelers know that RC airplanes come in a wide variety of different shapes and sizes.
In fact, different models are designed for different kinds of people.
It is not just that there are different styles or eras of aircraft from which to choose.
Many of the models are intended for either casual or highly dedicated modelers, and choosing the wrong one might result in you wasting a lot of money and failing to enjoy the experience.
In this article, we are going to identify three basic types of RC airplanes modelers.
They are the casual flyer, the dedicated modeler, and those who fall somewhere in between.
Casual Flyers With advances in technology and materials, we have seen a massive increase in the number of RC airplanes intended for casual people just looking to have a good time for a low price.
Most of the models intended for this purpose are designed primarily to be easy to fly and resistant to damage.
They are made from resilient plastic and can be knocked into obstacles without being destroyed.
For anyone starting out in the world of flying model airplanes, these are a fine way to start.
However, they are a far cry from the work of dedicated scale modelers.
Dedicated Modelers Another, more traditional group of modelers are dedicated to building extremely high-quality scale replicas of real aircraft.
RC airplanes that are designed to be as close as possible in appearance and performance as the real aircraft on which they are based tend to be much more involving to fly.
A crash will render them irreparably damaged, so the stakes are much higher.
These modelers typically choose to build their own models from scratch, using anything from foam to balsa wood.
Much of the enjoyment in the hobby is in the challenge of building the models yourself.
Those In Between Not everyone falls into either of these extremes.
In fact, the majority of people probably prefer something in between.
On the one hand, there is a lot to be said for a relatively sturdy model that can be built and flown with less risk.
On the other hand, something like a scale model of a Spitfire or Mustang holds more drama than a model that looks like a child's toy.
Many RC airplanes exist to fulfill this desire for a middle-of-the-road model.
Many are scale models pre-built from sturdy plastic in the shape of recognizable aircraft.
Conclusion There are three basic types of RC airplanes modeler presented here.
Chances are you fall into one category.
What sort of modeling you are interested in has a major influence on what sort of model you should buy.
If you are primarily interested in the challenge of building and flying your own scale model, then your criteria are far different from those of someone who just wants to have a bit of trivial fun with an indestructible model.
Choose the right kind of RC airplanes and you should be sure to have a good time.
