With your skating abilities developing and skill levels becoming fine tuned you may be looking toward new and exciting challenges.
There are many ways that one can challenge themselves and still skate individually, Speed Skating is one of them.
Do you really have a need for speed? Do you have the determination, enthusiasm and motivation to become a top speed skater? You could be the one to win for the USA, at the next World Championships and remember that Roller Sports are a strong candidate sport to replace Baseball and softball in the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics.
Regardless of your age, you can find groups and clubs in thirty states to speed skate with and if your state or location doesn't have a group start one.
Two Quad Speed Skating events are the U.
S.
Nationals and the Speed Roller Skating World Championship.
However, the Inline speed skating is taking over and becoming very popular.
Inline Roller Sports include sprints, relays, distance races, marathons, ultra marathons, dry land triathlons and the downhill.
Sprints are just that sprints of 300m to 1000m and reaching speeds of 40 MPH or better.
The relays are usually 2 or 4 skaters, each racing a portion of the distance.
There are even mixed gender relay races.
Then we have the distance races and marathons.
These races are usually offered to the general populace and this allows for even the novice to have a chance to set goals and strive for continual improvement.
The distance races are 5k or greater type races and the Marathons are usually 42k.
Ultra Marathons stretch it out to 100k races.
The Dryland Triathlons are just like the normal triathlons, substituting skating with the swimming portion.
These events are rare but they can be very rewarding and fun to participate in.
Boring? Well how about going extreme? Downhill Racing, timed events down a steep course reaching speed of up to 130km/h.
You don't have to compete to enjoy Roller Skating but skating with someone can be very enjoyable and always remember, a little competition never hurt anyone.
