From a young age we are conditioned to believe in happy endings.
Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm led us down the path that good will conquer evil and that the princess will always find her prince, that when it came to it true love would triumph over all else.
So, how do we know when we have found true love or even if the love spoken of in fables of old is within our grasp? Love will mean something very different to each and every person.
We all love in many capacities; the way you love a friend for example is very different to a love you have for a child.
Think for a moment, would you throw yourself in front of a friend to take a bullet for them? I'm sure you'd like to think you would but our fight or flight response is very strong and therefore our desire to protect our self, whatever our intentions, is strong too.
Your child on the other hand, well the bond you have with them is strong, true love one might say.
There is no doubt that you would leap to their defence in any situation.
William Shakespeare, among his many talents understood what true love meant.
Quite the reverse, it becomes stronger and hardier.
You will know when you have been blessed with true love because it touches you, touches your heart in a way that you never thought possible.
As with everything thought, there is a downside to this upside of love.
You never get over it.
If for reasons outside of your control you are parted from your true love then the pain is intense and does not disappear.
As with many aspects of life the blessing is also the curse.
The yin and yang of love as it were.
If you are lucky enough to find it then cherish every moment of it because little else will ever compare to true love.
The legends are there to guide and warn us.
The utopian ending of happily ever after is rare but it is worth reaching for as the moments that you have trying to attain it will stay with you forever.

"Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove: O no! it is an ever-fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken;"True love is not fickle, it does not disappear or waiver through storms.
Quite the reverse, it becomes stronger and hardier.
