Complete your Mystical and Scenic Luang Prabang Experience with Stops to Pak Ou & Kuang Si

If you had to choose a place to embrace the grace and personification of Laos - Luang Prabang is definitely it. Here, you'll revel one of the cleanest places around, blessed with a soothing and laid back country air. And let's not forget temples worthy of UNESCO's recognition. But wait, there's more. Just off of the former capital are two must-visit sites, showcasing the area's mysticism and natural beauty. In no particular order, they are Pak Ou Caves and Kuang Si waterfall.

First, let's take a look into Luang Prabang. This settlement is well known for its collection of temples sitting side-by-side with colonial buildings and palm treed boulevards.s Here are some of the sites you must see:

- Morning alms walk - This occurs very early in the morning and is a unique sight indeed. Lines of orange clad monks will certainly brighten up the dark early morning scenery.

- Haw Kham - This is the former Royal Palace, now turned into a museum. There are cultural presentations and performances in the nearby theater.

- Wat Xieng Thong - Built in 1560, this is the town's oldest temple. It commands an enviable location, right on the banks of the Mekong River. A fine collection of Buddhist relics, including images, a rare reclining statue and scriptures are housed here.

- Wat Sen - Built in 1718, the temple contains 10,000 stones from the Mekong. It was restored in 1957 commemorating the Buddha's birth 2500 years earlier.

But, as anybody would tell you, an experience in Luang Prabang would be incomplete without visiting Pak Ou and Kuang Si. Let's take a look at these sites and see why they must form a part of your journey.

- Pak Ou Caves - This is one of the most mystical, unique and maybe even bizarre places out there. A regular cave it is, except that there are hundreds if not thousands of lacquered Buddha images scattered all over the place. And there's a reason for it. Before the arrival of Buddhism, the area was considered sacred y Animists. The belief carried over in to the Buddhist era as followers would place their old statues out of respect for the area.

- Kuang Si Falls - This is Laos' most popular waterfall. You will see why once you visit the place for yourself. The waters are amazingly blue, the pools are refreshing and the green and lush area around the cascades offers perfect spots for relaxation. And the scenery is picture perfect! There's something for everyone here.
