Hotels on Congress Street in Portland, Maine offer visitors the chance to visit multiple landmarks, museums and the Gulf of Maine Aquarium. While there are only a couple of hotels actually on Congress Street, there are other accommodations on the numerous side streets that surround Congress Square. These hotels give guests the chance to choose from three-star hotels to local inns, accommodations in styles from Victorian to contemporary and accommodations that fit their budgets. - The Clarion Hotel in Portland is located three miles from the airport and close to the University of Southern Maine. It is also within sight of the Amtrak station, but visitors are offered a free shuttle rather than walking. The former Doubletree property is now listed as an award-winning three-star property, and offers an indoor pool, spa tub and fitness facility. There are meeting rooms, business services and audio-visual equipment. There is also a restaurant and lounge. The multi-lingual staff assist guests during their time at the 149-room, non-smoking hotel. It is located about two miles from town center, but the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to area restaurants, bars and attractions. Rates as of October 2010 ranged from $99 to $139 a night.
