The Haute-Savoie department in eastern France is the ideal location for a holiday, no matter what time of the year. While many people associate the Rhones-Alpes region with winter sports, throughout the summer months there is also plenty to see and do once you leave your chalet. Morzine, for instance, is one of the area's most picturesque communes, with a variety of events going on from June to September that are certainly worth checking out.

When the snow melts on the ice-capped mountains and the ski season has come to a close, there is still a world of fun waiting for you right outside your chalet. Morzine is simply stunning and with warm weather, panoramic mountain views and so many exciting events and festivals going on it's no wonder it is such a beloved holiday location.

Morzine Harley Days: To be held on 11 to 14th July this fun event will incude a free concert in the tourist square. As the name suggests it is a celebration of all things Harley with an estimated 3,000 plus of the beautiful bikes descending on the resort. As well as craft stalls and great food there will be lots of activities for young and old. Although the musical lineup is not yet finalised, in previous years the event has played host to rock legends Status Quo.
9th Pass'Port du Soleil MTB: This renowned event will be held on 28th-30th June this years, making use of the area's cable cars and chairlifts. For the Pass'Port du Soleil event, you will only need yourself and your mountain bike when leaving your chalet. Morzine is a renowned destination for biking enthusiasts, and this event includes a stunning 80km cross border circuit between France and Switzerland using the aforementioned chair lifts and cable cars. It also includes a mountain bike ride across the Portes du Soleil. According to event sponsors, it is suitable for all levels and refreshments and local produce will be available along the route. A gift will be given to everyone that participates.
Monumental Re-Use Art Festival: In mid-July, the resort will host its second annual Re-Use Art Festival. For four days, artistic creation and expression will flourish when artists and sculptors from all around the world will meet to create beautiful works of art from recycled materials such as metal and slate.
The Tastes of Morzine: From 13-17 of August, you can enjoy the Tastes of Morzine festival. The event will take the form of a gastronomical journey and you will experience three of the area's best restaurants; you'll begin with an appetizer at the first restaurant, a main course at the second and finally dessert at the third. During the course of the festival there will also be workshops for children, themed walks and visits that include jam making and edible plant gathering as well as local produce tasting.
While the Rhones-Alpes region is certainly a tremendous area to ski, one really shouldn't forget there is so much action going on throughout the rest of the year as well - all you will need to do is walk out the front door of your chalet! Morzine is one of the most stunning areas in the department and should be a top pick for your next holiday.
