Interior Home Design Styles

    Less is More

    • The main principle to modern design is this: Less can be applied to many aspects of a style--less color, less clutter, less furniture. Creating a modern design is quite simple--pick a few essential pieces that have straight, modern lines and minimal color. Decoration can simply be clean, white walls with polished concrete floors. A modern interior typically avoids a lot of extra decoration and only incorporates items that are functional. Add a few splashes of color using something functional, such as a rug, pillow or candle.

    More is More

    • The main principle to an ornate design is lots of colors, textures and patterns combined together will help to create an ornate interior. Choose patterns and colors that complement each other but do not necessarily match. This will enhance the uniqueness of each item. Choose large, golden carved picture frames with detailed paintings to hang on the wall. Add rugs with patterns on top of dark wood floors. Furniture can have ornate shapes with carved legs.

    More Should Match

    • Traditional design incorporates lots of floral or plaid patterns that match and coordinate. The furniture has traditional lines with simple, carved legs. A large floral pattern, a smaller coordinating floral and a plaid in the same color scheme and style is very typical in traditional design. The floors can be wooded or carpeted with coordinating rugs. Traditional design also incorporates non-functional items to set on the coffee tale or credenza. The furniture has simple lines with more ornate carved legs.
