Types of Braces Recommended by Lubbock Orthodontists

Orthodontists nowadays have become more competent in ensuring that our teeth and jaw are in good shape through convenient and fashionable ways. Instead of considering invasive surgeries, many orthodontists recommend their patients to use external devices such as braces. Here are the different types of braces recommended by Lubbock Orthodontists.

The first type of braces is the earliest type of braces introduced in the field of dentistry. These are called traditional metal braces which use large, silver brackets with rubber bands to force movement. Traditional metal braces are the most affordable orthodontic treatment, but usually hard to clean. Patients with traditional braces should visit their dentist every month for the adjustment of bracket and replacing of rubber bands.

Popularized by famous actor Tom Cruise, ceramic braces are made of tooth-colored substance which makes it invisible except for the wire that runs across the teeth. This type of braces is stain resistant, but the rubber bands can pick up the color of deeply colored foods and beverages. Ceramic braces are more expensive than traditional metal braces, but are worn for the same period of time.

Damon braces, on the other hand, use an opening and closing hinge that fastens the wire in place. Patients with Damon braces will go in for wire changes, instead of rubber band replacement or bracket adjustment. This type of braces recommended by your orthodontist in Lubbock is believed to work faster than traditional braces and makes your "tin grin" less noticeable with its smaller brackets. Damon braces also come in clear form which costs about $1000 for each row of teeth.

An orthodontist in Lubbock may recommend another type of braces called lingual braces for patients who are very much concerned about the aesthetics. As the name implies, this type of braces is placed on the tongue side of the teeth, instead of placing it in front. Lingual braces, however, can cause tongue irritation and cost much more than traditional braces.

More invisible than ceramic braces, Invisalign is preferred by patients who want to wear braces that don't attract attention. It uses clear aligners that must be changed every two weeks to gradually move the teeth to the desired position. These clear aligners can be removed by the patient when eating or brushing. An orthodontist in Lubbock TX will not recommend Invisalign unless your teeth require superficial alignment.
