Your Options For Eye Surgery Other Than LASIK Surgery

There are many technologically advanced eye surgery options present nowadays which consists of eye surgeries for reforming the eye surface through different techniques like LASIK and PRK and other methods, like implantable lenses for eyesight improvement. Whereas, LASIK and PRK are similar techniques in which the eye surface is reformed to change the path of rays that get into the eye whereas artificial lenses placement in the eye is a technique that helps correcting the visual ability of the eye.

Radial Keratotomy (RK) is a surgical technique used for eyes having the problem of nearsightedness. It basically works by cutting slits to level the surface of the eye. This technique has faced some issues for the patients that include experiencing constant glare, visual disturbances and side effects which cause problems seeing at night.

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is another eye surgical option that has proved to highly successful in the curing the eye problems completely. This surgical process works by the removal of eye tissues from the surface of the eye which reshapes the curvature of the outer eye. PRK is also referred many times as surface ablation and is considered to be one of the most popular eye surgery options. The procedure of PRK and LASIK are very alike and the result produced by these procedures are also almost the same. PRK shows faster results in eye nervous regeneration than LASIK and PRK is a much safer technique if the patient's eye cornea is found to be extremely thin to go through any LASIK surgery. The latest developments in eye surgery options have given eye surgeons new surgical techniques that can be used for building much thinner flaps which shows that those patients might need to undergo LASIK eye surgery. LASIK is more beneficial as compared to PRK regarding the fact that the patient is able to attain perfect vision within days after the surgery compared to a PRK procedure. There are other types of LASIK eye surgical options that are present and the differences are mainly differentiated by the flaps produced in this eye surgery option.

LASEK is done by producing an extremely thin flap for the external layer of the eye and by removing it away from the surface of the eye using alcohol in the procedure which later helps in reshaping of the eye. Then there is a another procedure Epi-LASIK similar to the LASEK but the only difference being that a different type of slitting instrument is operated while lifting the flap. Then there is another eye surgery option which is referred as being the bladeless, blade-free or All-Laser LASIK in which the cutting process takes place with the help of laser rather than manual tools for making the flaps for this eye surgery option. Another very significant eye surgery option is called the Wavefront LASIK or PRK which is used fundamentally to measure the path of light entrance in to the eye. The wavefront machine can analyze the eye and automatically making changes to guide the laser so as to generate better vision and remove any problems resulting as if only lasers were used to reshape the eye.
