Treatment of Advanced Parkinson's Disease
Despite many treatments available for advanced Parkinson's disease, the management of postural instability and gait disorders have yet to be fully elucidated. Trials of apomorphine continuous infusion and LCIG have reported some improvement in gait and postural problems, but not beyond what can be achieved with medication therapy. Physical, occupational, and exercise therapy can all be helpful in the symptomatic treatment of advanced Parkinson's disease. Both tai chi and resistance exercises have been shown to reduce the risk of falling.
