- 1). Lean the frame or entire bike against a wall or other sturdy surface. Alternatively, for better stability, you can attach the bike to a bicycle mechanic's work stand.
- 2). Measure from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube. The bottom bracket is the hole in the bottom part of the frame that accepts the crank arms, which are the parts that accept your pedals. The seat tube is the part of the frame that the seatpost slides into.
- 3). Use the center-to-center method as an alternative. In this case, measure from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the top tube. The top tube is the portion of the frame, extending from the seatpost to the handlebar.
- 4). Locate the number of inches of your measurement on your tape measure. This is the size of your mountain bike frame. Unlike road bike frames, which tend to be measured in centimeters, mountain bike frames use inches.
