The Military Occupational Speciality (MOS) is an organizational system used by the United States Army to rank enlisted women and men. An Army Military Occupational Speciality is a particular job within the intricate command organization of the United States Army, which could be playing in the Army band or rigging the parachutes of the quartermaster corps. Though the Army MOS and the AOC (Area of Concentration) systems are very much alike, the Army's commissioned officers are ranked under AOC.
Specialties are broken down by the Army by military intelligence or by career management field, which is a reference to a huge division such as engineering. Individual Army MOS can be found in every field of career management. A set of codes accompanies the whole system, and as such a multi-sensor operator who is a part of military intelligence, will have the code Army MOS 98P. There are a number of careers that enlisted officers can pursue with each of these careers.

The military needs supply managers, accountants, doctors, and other professionals, in addition to soldiers. Training for these jobs can be used in the Army, as well as in the civilian world.
